Marriage advice we received on our wedding day (Lana’s friend, Don).
Lots of communication and lots of Barry White music.
In 2022, John Legend music, maybe?
Not bad coming from an unmarried male...
There is no end of advice on marriage and family.
Most of it is not really that useful.
We’re going to explore only three pieces of advice from a true source of wisdom and direction: the Proverbs.
This is practical advice. Actions you can take today, make a regular practice and strengthen your marriage. BTW - if you’re not married, listen up and, if you do get married someday, you’ll be ahead.

Support One Another

Let your first impulse be to help, support your mate. Always find ways to make your spouse’s life easier.
Proverbs 12:25 NLT
25 Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
Proverbs 17:9 NLT
9 Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.

Stay At Home

Don’t look outside your marriage in comparison in any way.
When we compare our life together to someone else’s, it’s easy to become bitter or jealous of their life, their mate.
Proverbs 14:30 NLT
30 A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.
Stay at home in your wallet/lifestyle.
Don’t compare your finances or lifestyle to any one else’s. Peace and contentment become a priority.
Proverbs 15:17 NLT
17 A bowl of vegetables with someone you love is better than steak with someone you hate.
Proverbs 17:1 NLT
1 Better a dry crust eaten in peace than a house filled with feasting—and conflict.
Stay at home in your intimacy.
Proverbs 5:15–18 NLT
15 Drink water from your own well— share your love only with your wife. 16 Why spill the water of your springs in the streets, having sex with just anyone? 17 You should reserve it for yourselves. Never share it with strangers. 18 Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.

Get Help

Every relationship has its rough spots. Most of us learn that within 24 hours of the wedding!
Seek wise counsel when it happens. Don’t run from conflict, fix it!
Lana & I seeking counsel on having another baby.
There may not be anybody else in your life willing to tell you bluntly what you need to hear. Proverbs doesn’t pull any punches.
Proverbs 11:14 NLT
14 Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.
Proverbs 12:15 NLT
15 Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.
Proverbs 13:10 NLT
10 Pride leads to conflict; those who take advice are wise.
Conclusion:
Proverbs 19:20 NLT
20 Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.
