Who is in control? //

take a microscope over sovereignty // Attributes of God. // The Omni’s

Being that God is all-powerful, we can surmise that he is always in complete control. That is his sovereignty- his controlling nature. Nothing has ever happened that was outside the purview of his notice. Nothing has ever taken place that was surprising to God. Nothing has ever occurred to God and he has never learned anything.

RITUALISTIC PEOPLE. - DAILY LEARNING // OUR VIEW OF GOD COMES THROUGH THE LIMITATIONS OF OUR OWN PROCESSES

Psalm 103:19 Amplified Bible- The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all [the universe].

EASY TO VIEW THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD WHEN IT COMES TO THE INDESCRIBABLE
IF THIS, THEN WHY THAT? - WHY EVIL / WHY DESTRUCTION / WHY HARDSHIP AND DIFFICULTY /

In the history of humanity, why is there so much devastation and destruction, both from a human perspective as well as a natural perspective?

Millard Erickson in his book, Christian Theology states, “God is in control of all that occurs. He has a plan for the entire universe and all of time, and is at work bringing about the good plan. But a shadow Falls across this comforting Doctrine: the problem of evil.”

Philosopher, David Hume who lived during the 1700’s wrote an essay entitled Dialogues concerning Natural Religion and in is posed these questions and tensions, “Is he willing to prevent evil, but not able? then is he impotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. is he both able and willing: then whence is evil?”
The tension of this theological problem comes down to one simple thing.
The prayer that so many people have taught their children to pray at dinner time -- “God is great, God is good. Let us thank him for our food.”

“For if God is great, then he is able to prevent evil from occurring. If God is good, he will not wish for evil to occur. But there is rather evident evil about us. The problem of evil then may be thought of as conflict involving three concepts: God's power, God's goodness, and the presence of evil in the world.”

When we regard God’s sovereignty, we love to know that God is control, but WHERE IS HIS SOVEREIGNTY WHEN WE NEED IT?

AGAIN FROM MILLARD ERICKSON- “The religious form of the problem of evil occurs when some particular aspect of one's experience has had the effect of calling into question the greatness or goodness of God and hence threatens the relationship between the believer and God.”

Psalm 73:1-11 NIV -

The definition of God’s sovereignty now succumbs to the visible reality of what we see and feel around us. That’s not a secure and sure foundation.

Experiences cannot become the defining factor of our core beliefs.

Reactionary living. This is not intentional belief, this is reacting to what’s in front of you and allowing it to become the driving factor where you base all your decisions. Can you imagine…

TRIANGLE ILLUSTRATION

By our defining God’s goodness through our situations, places us on a level with God. It’s as if we were saying behind his back, if I were in charge, I would do it like this….

<<Keys beginning>>

If we’re not confident in God’s sovereign power, everything becomes questionable.
If you are not completely convinced that he is in complete control of the outcomes of the universe, than you have nothing to build on. Everything is going to feel squishy and uncertain, even panicky.
You simply cannot interpret the goodness of God based on your experiences.
When you make that interpretation, your view of God becomes distorted and blurry.

MICROSCOPE WORLDVIEW

You have put yourself into a position of determining if the outcomes that God allows are good and you can only base them on your own interpretation of what good and evil actually is.
Job 1:6-12 NIV // Job 1:19-21 NIV You can’t deny his response. I had some, I lost some, but in everything God is good and deserves our praise.
