The Cost of Spiritual Power

The anointing is not only revealed as a demonstration of power, but as an expression of that which is sacred, holy, and precious.
Exodus 30:29 ESV
29 You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy. Whatever touches them will become holy.
The Hebrew word qadash, used in Exodus 30:29, means to set something or someone apart for sacred use.
The anointing of the Spirit of God is one of the most priceless attributes one can ever steward. The anointing is more valuable than wordly riches and surpasses every form earthly value.
The anointing is a divine substance that flows directly from God Himself.
The anointing is costly. The price to pay for the anointing cannot be measured in monetary value, but rather in obedience to God by a willingness to lay our whole lives before Him.
Talk about the Bible story (found in the trash).

The Requirements for the Anointing

Obedience to God’s Word
Following the leading of the Spirit
These two requirements are necessary requirements to advance in the anointing.
The anointing may be displayed through various manifestations of the Spirit, but all such manifestations will glorify Jesus and bring honor unto His holy name.
Peter said in Matthew 19:27 (ESV) - “See, we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?”
Notice that there is a cost to the decision of following Christ.
Now let’s look at how Jesus responded to Peter.
In verse 29. “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life.”
But I also want you to notice that there is a reward to following Christ.
The reward is a hundredfold blessing which means authority and rulership in the millennial reign of Christ.
And eternal life is the ultimate blessing resulting in following Christ.
But… I also want to point your attention to Acts 1:8.
Acts 1:8 (ESV)
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
You have to die to receive power.
The anointing is looking for a dead man.
The cost of following Christ results in everlasting life, and the cost of the sacred oil is the power of the Holy Ghost!
But you have to die to get it!
You can’t buy it with money! The cost is death!

The Anointing is Given to Those That Are Chosen By God.

John G. Lake was a missionary who spread Pentecostalism in South Africa from 1908–1919. After completing his missionary work in Africa, Lake evangelized for 20 years in the United States setting up "healing rooms" and healing campaigns, and establishing churches.
When John G. Lake’s desired to enter full-time ministry, his boss agreed to allow him to take three months off to preach. But he also warned him, “At the end of three months, $50,000 a year will look like a lot to you, and you will have little desire to sacrifice it for the dreams of religious possibilities.” Lake thanked his boss for all he had done for him and left his job. Then, once the three months had passed, Lake boldly declared, “I am through forever with everything in life but the proclamation and demonstration of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” He never returned to his job.
“The use of anointing oil is a matter of obedience. It is a symbol of the Spirit of God, and that is all it is. So we place upon the individual the anointing oil in order that we fulfill the symbol of the Spirit of God as the Healer, and that is all.” - John G. Lake
The sacred anointing oil was used to show that a priest or king was chosen by God, by pouring the oil on top of the person’s head.
The oil and spice mixture was unique.
The uniqueness of the mixture would reinforce the firm distinction between the sacred and the common.
The point of this restriction was so a freshly anointed priest would smell different than everyone else, signifying that he was set apart to God as holy.

The Oil

Leviticus 8:12 (ESV)
12 And he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed him to consecrate him.
The anointing means smear or to rub.
The Act of rubbing or pouring oil on the head was used to install kings into their positions as God’s chosen rulers.
The anointing is an act pouring oil over someone as a symbol of God’s Spirit empowering and commissioning them for a specific role or task.
Share you personal experiences with the anointing.
Talk about bishop Stone
Give the oil presentation
Whoever had the oil poured over them were known as the anointed of God.
The oil was significant of being marked by God for His own purposes.
The purpose of the oil of the Spirit is to flow into the deepest chambers of our hearts, and overflow to a hurting and dying world.
1 Samuel 16:13 (ESV)
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

The Anointing Was Poured On Priests, Prophets and Kings.

1. Kings

1 Samuel 16:1 (ESV)
1 The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”

2. Prophets

1 Kings 19:16 ESV
16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel, and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place.

3. Priests

Exodus 28:41 ESV
41 And you shall put them on Aaron your brother, and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests.
The Anointing validates the calling.
Talk about the anointing as it pertains to healings, callings and character.

Anointing for Healing

Mark 6:13 ESV
13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.
James 5:13–15 (ESV)
13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

How Much Is Jesus Worth to You?

The Price of the Oil Signifies Christ’s Worth to You.
John 12:3 ESV
3 Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
Mary’s devotion to Christ caused her to take the very costly oil and anoint His feet. To Mary, there was nothing too valuable to give to Christ.
Every time Mary is mentioned in scripture she is at the feet of Jesus. In this particular passage she is wiping His feet with her hair. Since a woman’s hair is her glory, she was laying her glory, as it were, at His feet.
The revelation is that Mary would have carried the fragrance the perfume would give her after she left His feet.
When you worship Christ you will carry away with you the fragrance of that moment.
No house is filled with a pleasant aroma of the anointing as the house where Jesus is given His rightful place.
Share your personal experiences with the anointing and with worship.

Conclusion: The Real Anointing is Produced by Intimacy.
