1.
The Law of Liberty.
vs 1-13.
Paul says that we are to receive the weaker brother in Christ.
In this case it is the brother who does not know his freedom in Christ yet.
from ritual diets, feast days and cleansings.
but not to argue over things that the Bible is not clear on.
Vs, 2-3.
leave what is vague, vague.
We are not to judge one another!
The idea is that we are to be mature enough to show grace in areas that are not so clear in the Bible.
such as cigarettes, alcohol, Bible translation.
What holidays do we celebrate?
y
you and I must be able to say with certainty that we will not judge someone over a simple disagreement of opinion.
Do you really want to be the person who stifles someones freedom in Christ?
2. The Law of Love.
Vs, 14-22.
The Law of love is that we put our brother ahead of ourselves even if the truth is that all things are clean Vs,14.
This looks like putting our brother’s need ahead of our own freedom.
You may be right about you freedom but that doesn’t give you the right to make your brother stumble.
Vs, 15.
Illustration: lets say you had a brother who was once addicted to cigarettes, would you smoke around him knowing he still struggled with them?
you may feel no burden on your conscience but don’t cause him to sin by tempting him to indulge again.
We are to look to others and their place in the Kingdom of Christ
Do you think about the way your actions effect the weaker Christians around you?
How can you do more to ensure that you will not cause them to stumble?
In all of this make sure that you are submitted to one another and to Christ!
Conclusion: The main theme here is a balance maturity and grace.
There is room for all in the kingdom!
we don’t work for Christ to be justified or to appear righteous.
But rather we work for the Good of Christ name.
Let us remember we can disagree and still follow Christ together!
