Christ commanded all Christians to eat bread and to drink from the cup in thankful remembrance of Him and His death.
The Lord’s supper is a celebration of the presence of God in our midst; bringing us into communion with God and with one another; feeding and nourishing our souls.
It also anticipates the day when we will eat and drink with Christ in His Father’s kingdom.

A new promise through death.
A poor person who is promised a new life (bride)
What sort of things might a bride do?
1. Set a date
2. Send invites
3. Make preparations
4. Look at ring
The cup we drink can be bitter.
We must learn to do as our master did.
He gave His life.
We must fight the temptations to go back to our old self (fling).
In the olden days a dowry had to be paid to the brides parents.
They would be loosing a valuable and contributing member of the household and so a dowry was set.
Christ through His death paid the dowry.
And we are to follow in like suit and die to our old family because we have been given a new and better promise.
that why we are called to examine ourselves in vs. 27-29.
The Lord’s table in one sense is a place where we come and die.
2. The anticipation of the promise.
A place that we come for life.
the table is a place for those who have been given new life in Christ.
Imagine a groom who removes the veil to find a stranger.
the promise is not for strangers.
