The kingdom of God is not like anyother kingdom on earth
God always works in amazing ways and in ways that bring glory to Him and those who trust in Him
When Jesus looks for a earthly comparison for his kingdom he looks to the mustard seed. Why?

Humble Beginnings

The mustard seed is not impressive in any way. It is smaller than most other seeds especially seeds that grow into trees.
God’s Kingdom, just like all his plans start out unimpressive
Abraham and Israel
Disciples- fishermen, tax collectors, etc
The foolishness of God will confound the wise
1 Corinthians 1:17-31 foolishness of the gospel
According to prophecy (

Planting, Growth and Outreach

God takes what is unimpressive and begans his plans. He always does this at the perfect time
He does not do anything to late or to early
Just as a wise farmer he knows at what point to put his plan into action
Once God’s plan comes to fruition it is greater than all others. Only by looking backward can you see the wisdom of God’s plan
The greatness of this kingdom will reach out and bring comfort to all who trust in it
In this we see the purpose of God’s kingdom to shadow those who lodge in it
God’s mystery and plan is revealed over time
He is working slowly in us and in this world to bring about his great story
“as they were able to understand”
John 16:12-16 The work of the Holy Spirit
