Introduction

Key Verse: Acts 14:22 “strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, “Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.””
OT Campanion: Jeremiah 1:19 ““They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to deliver you,” declares the Lord.”
Acts 13 and 14 comprise Luke’s complete account of Paul and Barnabas’ first missionary journey.
In many ways, the world they ventured into was very different from what we see today.
A Greek worldview and theology
Social environment
Economic environment
The Jewish culture was affected by this all
The teachings of Christ were alien to both Jew and Greek and threatened the social and economic status quo - created enemies on both sides - potential cultural upheaval
Scientific revolution of the 17th Century - Kepler and Copernicus
Paul and Barnabas were divinely appointed agents of change, and change is always resisted, often violently
Through the agency of God, Paul and Barnabas persevered and rejoiced with their church at the end of this trip
