“ What to know about the tithes & offering “

Malachi 3:6–12 (KJV 1900)

6 For I am the Lord, I change not;

Therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

7 Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them.

Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts.

But ye said, Wherein shall we return?

8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me.

But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee?

In tithes and offerings.

9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me,

Even this whole nation.

10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse,

That there may be meat in mine house,

And prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts,

If I will not open you the windows of heaven,

And pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,

And he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground;

Neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.

12 And all nations shall call you blessed:

For ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.

It’s not a hocus-pocus

It’s not magic

It’s exactly what it is

Giving God’s way

Have nothing to do

With the Pastor

Want money from the people

It’s a command from God

And it’s God’s people

Being obedient

To God’s Word — His Will & His Ways

Just like your house

Need money to operate

The Church

Need money to operate

But I hear what you are saying

“ The Church don’t need that much money to operate “

Whether the church

Don’t need much money or not

Or the church don’t have

That many bills

Really don’t matter

The principle of it

Is you being obedient

To what God has said

Malachi 3:6 NIV

““I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.”

God don’t change —- Active Wrath & Passive Wrath

People have not realize

that a lot of what God

is going to do for us

and through us

is going to be through our GIVING.

2nd. Corinthians 9:8

8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Example: “ God is able “ — in the hospital 7 days 50,000.00 — Payed a little over a 1,000 dollars.

Malachi 3:10–11 (KJV 1900)

9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, Even this whole nation.

Define: Curse — to have divine harm or evil invoke upon

Define: Curse — something causing misery or death

God’s people haven’t realize that the tithe is Sacred

And something that must not be tampered with

Define: Sacred — Holy, dedicated, Set apart for service or worship

Define: Tithe — comes from a Hebrew word that means “ TEN “

Note: A tithe is 10 percent of one’s grain, fruit, animals or money

Now we deal with Money

Define: Offering — the offering is what I lift up before the Lord because He’s worthy

Note: As mature Christians we should be beyond the 10%

(1:1-3:18) The Book of Malachi History

Malachi is the last of the old testament prophet

Before we hear the voice of John The Baptist

break the silence on the page of the New Testament

Before the Preaching of Jesus there’s about a 400 year span of silence

And Malachi ends at the old testament

He is called The Minor Prophet

But he has a major message

He’s minor only because of the book length of his prophecy

But his message is so major

Here’s the back drop of why he writes what he writes

He writes this prophecy

first because of the people of God

had separated themselves

from the law of God

The people that was responsible

for preaching that was the priest (Pastor)

well that had disappeared in the day of Malachi

The message of Malachi

deals with Rebuking, challenge & exhortation

Malachi

at the very center

of everything that he said

He wants to know

“will a man rob God” (That’s the basis of the blessing)

The basis of a blessing always begins with moral restoration

Moral restoration (verse 6 & 7) — REPENT & OBEY

Material restitution (verse 10) — WINDOWS

Miraculous realization ( verse 10 “ Prove me “ )

The people were selfish and greedy

The people were not trusting the Lord

to provide for them

Feeling they could not give

and still have enough for themselves

Romans 14:23 (KJV)

23 : for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

The people were not giving their best

they were withholding that for themselves

The people were giving begrudgingly & halfheartedly

They had no sincere desire

to give or to serve the Lord

but rather, only to fulfill their own obligations

The people were ungrateful

for what the Lord had given them

and were unwilling to return

anything to the Lord

The people failed to realize

that all they had belonged to the Lord

because everything they owned

had been given to them by the LORD

And when you don’t give biblically

you are GUILTY OF THESE SINS

Now the text moves

from a moral restoration

to material restitution

Cause God says you’ve “ Robbed Me “

Mal.3:10 ( Bring - Test Me )

Malachi 3:10 (KJV 1900)

Now a lot of us know this

but we have never experience it

And that’s because

we have never done it

And that’s why

you have to go back

to verse 6 & 7 with moral restoration

that begins with REPENTANCE followed by OBEDIENCE

Repentance — a change of mind

Obedience —

Note: Obedience becomes a problem for most church folks because it conflicts the way they want to live

Note: you have to do something before there’s material restitution ( Condition )

most of us want restitution without restoration so now people get frustrated because they want the results without fixing the problem ( REPENT & RETURN )

[ Frustrated examples ]

God bless me with a house — now you’re mad because of all the bills

Lord get me out of this apartment — now you’re mad cause you got to pay to cut the grass

STATEMENT: Blessings bring about good burdens

[ Frustrated example ]

You say you will get a car with 2 names Mercedes-Benz — Land-rover but you know that it COST when you just change the light bulb ( $400 )

Note: If you’re not making it, it’s because you’re not tithing or you’re living above your means

( Mis-Management )

Question : So where’s the material restitution ????????

Note: How do we ROB GOD—>Through tithes & offering

God says bring the WHOLE TITHE to the Storehouse.

1st. It must be brought to a Specific PLACE ( V. 10A )

Note: To the store house

Note: you can not split your tithe because you don’t like something at church (Brother Mario )

Note: So there’s A Place—>2nd Chron 31:10 storehouse—Neh. 10 storehouse—Deut. 14 storehouse

1st. It must be brought to a Specific PLACE ( V. 10A )

2nd. There’s a Specific PORTION that belongs to the Lord ( V. 8 )

It belongs to the lord

The portion that you give to God is ten percent

> Ten percent is the starting point

Example: Loan companies have starting points — Car notes & House notes have starting points

Example: We will pay extra

So when you don’t give that’s Sin ( lying—steal—fornacation—Adultery—etc…….)

Scrip: James 4:17

So if there’s sin in our life now you understand why you begin with the Moral restoration, so you REPENT & OBEY because God can’t bless & won’t bless a life that’s lived IN SIN.

1st. It must be brought to a Specific PLACE ( V. 10A )

3rd. It serves a Specific PURPOSE ( V. 10B )

Note: That there would be meat in my house

Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Example: The Fruit Example of tithe

God will open up the windows ———— Clouds

Windows—>is not just money

“ The Sacred Tenth “

It’s amazing how God has set in place for His people to bring the tithes & offering ( The Sacred Tenth ) to the storehouse which is His house

Now you don’t have to do it but if you don’t do it there will be consequence

This is the amazing thing about God if you choose not to do it

He will frustrate you to cause you to lean on Him

cause God desire for you trust Him & Prove ( test ) Him

Note: it’s impossible to keep the SACRED TENTH and you still make it

Example: Drug dealers are drive illegal cars & living in illegal house because cause they brought there possessions with illegal money , the police will cease there possessions

Example: God’s people are living in illegal houses, driving illegal cars & wear illegal cloths cause they took God’s money to buy it

Drug dealers — you see the right now effect because the police ceased there possessions

God’s people — don’t see the LONG TERM effect in taking the SACRED TENTH ( You are not connecting the dots )

Example: A member went to his Pastor & ask for prayers cause when he was making 50 thousand he was tithing but now that he’s making a 100 thousand he can not seem to tithe “ the Pastor prayed for God to bring him back to 50 thousand dollars. ( No safest place than the will of God )

Note: Verses 6-12 is really about Israel RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GOD & HIS PEOPLE and the evidence is verse 6 & 7 ( Change & Consumed )

“ Not consumed “ — That’s the Patience of God “ Not consumed “ — That’s the Mercy of God

1st: He will Reward your Faith (v.10)

Note: God is going to reward your faith because you put Him first ( “ That there may be food in My house “ )

Note: it’s going to take Faith to BRING your tithes ( Not Sight )

Romans 10:16-17 (KJV)

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Note: the problem with Israel was they was not receiving God’s word so they couldn’t have FAITH & the Priest wasn’t telling them all the truth neither.

1st: He will Reward your Faith (v.10)

2nd: He will Rebuke your Foes (v.11)

Define: Rebuke - mean to chide ( to speak out in angry or displeased rebuke )

Note: only the LORD can rebuke the devourer

Note: God rebuking the devourer meant that they would always have Protection & Provision

Note: when God says “ for your sakes “ He is saying that I’m stopping some stuff for you & against you

Example: A father gave his two daughters a box of chocolates one daughter ate first but the other daughter wouldn’t eat until her Father ate first ( some of you got chocolate ALL OVER YOU )

1st: He will Reward your Faith (v.10)

2nd: He will Rebuke your Foes (v.11)

3rd: He will Renew your Fruitfulness (v. 12 )

Note: When the Sacred Tenth is giving people will see the power of God operating in your life
