“I refuse to keep Silent”
Psalm 32:1-5
David says
when he kept silent
his bones waxed old
In other words
God was dealing with him
So he had to say something
I like David Psalms
because he’s not like most
Church folks
David don’t mind
being transparent
about his short comings
and what the LORD has done for him
I know we can’t share everything
With everybody
But we have to learn
How to be transparent
And tell people how GOOD & LOVING
God has been in our short comings
David is used of saying things like ;
Psalm 8:1 (KJV)
1 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
Psalm 9:1 (KJV)
1 I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
Psalm 23:1 (KJV)
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psalm 27:1 (KJV)
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 34:1 (KJV)
1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Psalm 62:2 (KJV)
2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.
Psalm 86:12 (KJV)
12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.
Note: And the Psalms is good to read when you are going through your moments in life.
But David don’t mind
Exposing himself to us and being transparent

1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness:
According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions:
And my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight:
But Psalm 32 is not a celebrated psalm
Psalm 32 is not a psalm
that people go around quoting
Psalm 32 is written by David
This is not one of David’s most popular psalms
This Psalm that’s written by David is call a “Penitential Psalm”
Penitential Psalm — mean it’s a Psalm of Confession
Penitential Psalm — is a Psalm of Sorrow & Regret
There are several Penitential Psalms in the bible
Psalm 6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, 143 all of these are Penitential Psalms
Psalms 32 & Psalm 51
is Psalms that was written
after David sinned with Bathsheba
you will find David sin with Bathsheba in 2nd Samuel 11
And it was after his sin with Bathsheba
that David writes Psalms 32 & Psalm 51
These two Psalms
represent a time in David’s life
when he was at his lowest point
It was a LOW LIGHT and not a HIGH LIGHT
we don’t like to talk about our LOW LIGHT
But we have to learn
how to share Both
the HIGH LIGHTS & the LOW LIGHTS
Of our life
we talk about the Successes but not the Short comings
we talk about the Fame but not the Failures
we talk about the Victories but not the Vulnerabilities
But David in this text
talks Openly & Candidly
about a time in his life
where he had messed-up
we need to look closely at this text
because David is not the only one
that have messed-up
ALL OF US HAVE MESSED-UP
I know when you look around
The church right now
You’re looking at the Redeemed Person
What you see now
Is after rehab
What you see now is after clubbing
What you see now is after smoking & drinking
What you see now is after stripping
What you see now
is after God has fixed us up & cleaned us up
So what you’re looking at is the Redeem
And the indictment
Against MOST of the people in the Church
Is that you put on a facade
As if you have never messed-up
Note: we act as if we have NEVER (lied, drink, smoke, dropped it like it was HOT)
Note: Matter of fact some of you were in the “TWO VIP Club ” 2-women, 2-men, 2-drinks, between 2 clubs
ALL of us have messed up
And the reason why
You are so hard on people now
Is because you’ve been delivered
Or you never done what they’re doing
But If you are a redeem person
And act as if you have never messed-up
You’re sinning right there with — PRIDE.
And now that we have been redeem
We don’t want to be around
Nothing wrong or anybody that’s wrong
I know the bible says
Be separated
But the bible also says be a light
We have to learn
How to be in the midst with out being contaminated
Example: One bad thing in the icebox don’t spoil the whole icebox.
Example: We have worldly people on our jobs but we’re not leaving our jobs.
David Talks About
1st: The Blemishes on His Record ( V. 1-2 )
Define Blemishes—a mark or flaw which spoils the appearance of something, a noticeable imperfection.
Note: David in these two verses talks about 3 blemishes on his record
His Transgressions
HIs Sins
His Iniquities
Transgression— In the Hebrew, it’s a very powerful word it literally means “to violate”
Transgression— it means in the Hebrew “to rebel”
It connotes the thought
Of a person crossing a line
David in this text
Is admitting that there was a time
In his interaction with Uriah & Bathsheba
That he cross the line
He violated them
He transgress
Example: Davis is admitted just like a basketball player & football player can step out of bounds David did just that [ Cross the Line ].
David says I rebel
I violated the friendship
And the trust I had with Uriah & Bathsheba
Sin — it literally means to miss the mark
Example: This connotes an archer that’s trying to hit the bulls eye
David is saying
I knew where the bullseye was or the target was
I tried to hit it
But some kind of way
I fell short
David is saying
In my Relationship with Uriah & Bathsheba
I knew what was right
But In all of my effort I fell short
David talks about his transgression
He talks about his sin
And now he mentions another word Iniquity.
Iniquity—in the Hebrew, it literally means “Twisted”
Iniquity—it means crooked
Note: [ The word Iniquity describes the character of a person that’s caught up in their transgressions & their sin ]
David is saying
Because of my transgression ( violate & rebel )
And because of my sin ( missing the mark )
I was twisted on the inside
David says my character, my morals, my judgements,
My ways was crooked
Because of my sin & my transgression
David is saying that I Violated, Rebel & miss the Mark against Uriah & Bathsheba.
David admits
That he have some Blemishes on his Record
Somebody today
Can admit that you have some blemishes on your record
As Pastor I got to testify about MY BLEMISHES on my record didn’t show up until AFTER I got SAVED ( YOU DON’T KNOW ME )
But I want to encourage you today
That God can still use you
With some blemishes on your record.
God has not called you because of your ability
But He’s calling you because of your capability
God is not calling you base on your past
God is calling you based on your potential
God can still use you
Note: Every person in the bible that have made a tremendous impact that God have used have some blemishes on their record.
God Never picks a perfect person
God never calls an individual without some issues
God never calls a WOMAN without some WOES
God never calls a MAN without some MESS
God always uses people with blemishes on their record
* Moses—Murderer
* Paul—Persecutor
* Peter—Denial
* Jeremiah—Crybaby
* Rahab—Prostitute —- There’s Life Beyond the Pole
* David—Adulterous
David don’t want to paint a picture to people as if he never made a mistake
And that’s the indictment of the church today we want to paint a picture as if we have done NOTHING.
The PEWS are PACKED with PLASTIC PEOPLE like you have never done nothing wrong
I’m SAVE but I’m still a work in progress
I love the Lord but I still got some issues
And if you catch me on the wrong day—>Look OUT
David Talks about
1st: The Blemishes on his Record ( V. 1-2 )
2nd: The Blessings that he Received ( V. 2 )
Note: after David talks about his transgression, his sin & his Iniquity he now talks about his blessings.
Now that don’t make any sense
Because David shows us that
The blemishes on his record
Don’t block the blessings he received
David is not talking about people
That’s in habitual sin
But he’s talking about people
That love the Lord
And falls but gets up
And deals with their sin
God don’t have to wait
Until you get it straight
God can bless you
While somethings in your life
Is Crocked & Blemish
In verse number 1
He uses the word Blessed
The blessing here
Is a blessing that David didn’t think was coming
Psalm 32 is an Old Testament Beatitude
We know the Beatitude in the New Testament
Scrip: Matthew 5:1-11
5 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Those are the New Testament Beatitudes
But Psalm 32 is an Old Testament Beatitudes
Psalm 32 is the second Old Testament Beatitude
Psalm number 1 is the 1st Old Testament Beatitude
Scrip: Psalm 1:1-6
1 Blessed is the man
That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor standeth in the way of sinners,
Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
And in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
That bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
His leaf also shall not wither;
And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so:
But are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous:
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
The difference between the Blessed person in Psalm number 1
And the blessed person in Psalm number 32
The blessed person in psalm number 1 have never messed
The blessed person in psalm number 32 got some blemishes
Psalm 1—The blessed Person in Psalm 1
He’s separated from the world)
He’s satisfied with the word )—
He’s situated by the water ).
Psalm 32—But 32 says even though I didn’t do everything right God still blessed me
Most of us
Are not like the brother in Psalm 1
But most of us
Are like the brother in Psalm 32
1st: The Blemishes on His Record ( V. 1-2
His Transgressions
HIs Sins
His Iniquities
Note: He says 3 things about the blessings he received.
Note: He’s blessed in Psalm 32 because;
A. God has cleared Him
B. God has covered Him
C. God has credited Him
1st: God Cleared Him (v.1)
Define Forgiven—to lift, take away, To be forgiven conceived of as being lifted up (or perhaps being removed).
Note: David talks about the blessing in being forgiven.
Note: David says I’m bless because God has cleared me
David says I’m not bless because of my Fortune (I’m bless because I’m forgiven)
David says I’m not bless because of my Favor (I’m bless because I’m forgiven)
David says I’m not bless because of my Fame (I’m bless because I’m forgiven)
The word for forgiven in this text
Literally means to be carried away
David suggest that the Lord
Had lifted off or carried away my transgression
Note: Leviticus 14:1-7 is a beautiful picture of what forgiveness looks like.
Whenever a priest was getting ready to declare a leper cleanse
That his leprosy had been lifted off of him
The bible says that the leper had to bring an offering to the priest.
The offering consisted of a bowl, scarlet & two clean birds
And what the priest would do is kill one of the birds
And the blood from the dead bird would be placed in the bowl
And the priest would get a sponge & dip it into the blood of the dead bird
And take the blood from the dead bird & sprinkle it on the live bird.
And the priest would take the live bird outside the temple & let the bird fly free in the field.
And the bird never came back to the temple
God gives us a beautiful picture of what forgiveness really is
As far as the East is from the West
He lifts them off you and they never come back again
That’s why nobody can forgive you like the Lord can
God has taken our sin
And put it on Jesus
And Jesus blood has cleared us.
Example: God & Satan in a Courtroom & God says cast dismiss because of Jesus.
1st: God Cleared Him (v.1)
2nd: God Covered Him (v.1B)
Define: Covered — closed, clothed, conceal
This Psalm was written
After David sin with Bathseba
For a year and a half
David was trying to cover it up
David found out
That you can’t cover nothing up
That’s in the light of God’s eye
Everyone in scripture
That ever tried to cover themselves
Always got left expose
Even Adam the first man
He tried to cover himself
That’s when he ate from the tree
Of knowledge his eyes became open
And he tried to make an apron
To cover themselves
But an apron always covers the front
But leaves your behind exposed
But David discovered
That if he’s going to get covered
He can’t get covered by a blanket
He can’t get covered by any being
But if he’s going to be covered
It has to be by the blood of Jesus Christ
Note: That’s why the CROSS should still excite us because we have been cleared
1st:God Cleared Him ( V. 1 )
2nd:God Covered Him ( V. 1B )
3rd: God Credited Him (v.2)
Psalm 32:2 ( KJV ) “2 Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no guile.”
Psalm 32:2 (CSB) 2 How joyful is a person whom the Lord does not charge with iniquity and in whose spirit is no deceit!
Define Imputeth—is a book keeping term
Note: Imputeth—which means to credit or to count
When God should have debited our account
He credited our account.
When your bank account is debited
it means money is taken out of the account
The opposite of a debit
is a credit
in which case money is added to your account
But instead, God was crediting David’s account
God took our Sins and credited us for righteousness
That’s why I thank God for justification
Because Justification is God crediting me for something I don’t even deserve.
Example: (Credited) Dillard had a sale (a one day sale) but you didn’t have no money but you had that plastic card that you swiped & the clerk credited you for money you didn’t have.
(God credited us)

Example: You every was holding something on the inside and when you told somebody about what was on the inside of you, you felt better.
David says when I tried not to talk about it
I tried to come to church & keep still & silent
Some of you come in church quite & leave quite
But not David
Example: Jeremiah tried to keep quite
