Introduction

Open your Bibles, if you are willing, to Psalm 24.
Last Time we had the wonderful meditation on the Shepherd King.
It is really important that we never separate King and Shepherd, they are the same person.
This week in Facebook I read a post that succinctly and Biblical explained the doctrine of election and predestination. It was well written and I enjoyed.
The Typical hatred came in the comments for the post
One comment stood out to me, “wait, God hated Esau?” the comment said, that was it.
This is what happens when you watch the baby lamb carrying Jesus on TV.
This is what happens when you read Psalm 23 without Psalm 2
This is what happen you read 1 Jn 4:8: “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” Without Mt 10:28. “Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
The scriptures not only point to Jesus, they define who Jesus is, and they teach us what we must do in worship towards him.
The question we will meditate on this evening is, Who is the King of Glory?
Lets read
Psalm 24 ESV
A Psalm of David. 1 The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, 2 for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. 3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. 5 He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah 7 Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! 9 Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory! Selah
May God bless the reading of His Holy and Infallible Word
Lets Pray

Transition

This psalm as 3 stanzas, the first is verse 1 and 2 and it establishes the eternality and sovereign right of the King of glory

The King of Glory is the Creator

Psalm 24:1–2 ESV
1 The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, 2 for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.
The earth belongs to this king
It belongs to him because he made it
Spoke with someone today, that said, I quote, “I hate hate hate, the concept of hell. Finite creatures who had no hand in creating themselves should not be subject to eternal punishment.”
But the “earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof”
“You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?” 20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” 21 Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? 22 What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, 23 in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory.” (Ro 9:19–23 ESV)
This is offence to man sensibilities
He leads me in path of righteousness
This is why we often says, Jesus is not the Lord of your life he is not the savior of your life.
This Lord of Glory that created all things,
“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.” (Col 1:16, ESV)
Who is the king of Glory? Is a fundamental question to salvation.
Moreover we see how important theology is, again I was told today, that I shouldn’t call myself a Calvinist i should just say I am a Jesus follower?
Too which I replied, what Jesus?
The Mormon say they are Jesus followers
Roman Catholicism says they are Jesus follower but you wont find the Gospel from them.
It matters what Jesus you follow and that means you theology of Jesus, matter.

Transition

This urgency of know what Jesus you follow is very clear int he next Stanza verse 3-6.

The King of Glory is the one that Bestows Blessing and Righteousness

Psalm 24:3–6 ESV
3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. 5 He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah
Who ascends the hill of the Lord? This is a critical question, int he contxt of
Worship
Salvation
There are only two place, the hill of the lord or Lake of Fire
“He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully”
This is not any of us
Jesus did this on our behalf
“He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation.”
This is us, we receive blessing and righteousness from the God of our salvation.
Paul quotes psalm 34 in Romans 4:6–9 saying “6 just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works: 7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; 8 blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.” 9 Is this blessing then only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? For we say that faith was counted to Abraham as righteousness.” (Romans 4:6–9, ESV)
What blessing is it that we receive, righteousness apart for works.
Imputed Righteousness.

Transition

The last Stanza is verses 7 - 10. What is it that we do, we proclaim Hosanna to the King.

The King of Glory is Mighty

Psalm 24:7–10 ESV
7 Lift up your heads, O gates! Selah
These are the gate of Jerusalem
“And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” (Mt 21:9–15 ESV)
“Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!”
“The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!”

Conclusion

The scriptures not only point to Jesus, they define who Jesus is, and they teach us what we must do in worship towards him.
What the scriptures says, “The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!”
We don’t define which battles and how they will be fought
When the Lord give and the Lord take away with Job we say, blessed be the name of the Lord
We kiss the son and take refuige in him know that it only by his grace that iron rod does not come down on us.
We head the rob of the Shepard and follow him in patch of righteousness.
We don’t tell God what he should or should do with the earth that was made for him and through him.
Friends, it is a fearful thing when someone calls themselves a believer but fights against the sovereignty of God to do as he pleases.
When someone claims to know the King but doesn’t life like he is the King what should we conclude?
Settle it in your mind, and meditate on it daily, he is the King.

Benediction

24  The LORD bless you and keep you;

25  the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;

26  the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
