The Apostle Peter writes this letter to warn against the rising heresy of gnosticism. He will Old Testament & prophecy of Christ return to do so. But here we also find that he calls the child of God to holy living & warns of the consequences for not living for Christ.

1. You have what you need. (Vs.1-4)

A. We have been given the power to live for Christ.
i). This is a divine work of the H.S.
B. This power to live righteously is found in the knowledge of the Gospel.
i). As you remember Christ sacrifice for you, you will find not only the strength but also the will to do what is commanded.
C. The same divine power that makes it possible to live for Christ has promised Great victories in Christ.
i). We are made to be partakers in the divine nature. The nature of Christ.

2. Increasing what you have. (Vs. 5-8).

A. We must make every effort to supplement our faith with continued service!
i) We add not to our salvific faith but our continuing faith.
ii). We are to be diligent in the addition of these godly works in our lives.
B. We must have these attributes in increasing measure. (verse 8)
i). The idea isn’t justifying works, but continued growth.
ii). We already have the promise of victory in Christ over sin! So, why not!?
iii). We can be fruitful in the work of Christ’s kingdom. It will however, require that we put the work first and “make every effort” to live for Him.

3. The warning for not increasing. (vs, 9-11.)

A. If you aren’t increasing you’re decreasing!
i). If there is not a consistent pushing forward there will be an eventual falling back. (verse 9)
ii). The Scripture says you’ll be like a blind man that has forgotten his freedom from sin.
iii). There is danger in inactivity. We must Actively seek growth in our walk with Christ.
B. Will you make every effort (verse 5) in your life to live for Christ?
i). Now is the time.
