Sermon Tone Analysis

Repent or Be Removed, Jeremiah 22:1-10.

Jeremiah preached judgment but hope if they repented: turn away from sin and walk in righteousness.

Jeremiah had a message from God.

It is not easy being a man of God.

Three times: Thus saith the LORD: [Jeremiah 22:1: Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word; Jeremiah 22:3, 6].

Hear the word of the LORD--the greatest thing.

We need to hear and obey the Word of the Lord.

[Jeremiah 22:2: And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates].

Jeremiah 22:1-5: Consequences for sin.

Jeremiah warned not to do wrong, shed no blood, do no violence, do not steal from the weak.

Evil has to be dealt with.

Exodus 22:22: Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.

[Jeremiah 22:4: For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people].

Parallel: Proverbs 14:34: Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

If you turn back to God, you will be blessed.

[Jeremiah 22:5: But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation.

Deuteronomy 29:24-29: Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land?

what meaneth the heat of this great anger?

Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt: For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them: And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book: And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.

The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law].

Righteousness exalts a nation.

If you do not heed My voice, you will be a desolation.

Do not sacrifice to any other God.

There are blessings following God.

There are consequences for sin.

Israel got what was promised as a warning.

Obey thus saith the Lord or receive the consequences.

God is faithful.

He does what He says He will do.

God changes not.
