Call to Worship:
Psalm 5:7–8 NKJV
7 But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple. 8 Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight before my face.
Giving
Acts 20:35 NKJV
35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

“Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?”

Matthew 8:23–27 NKJV
23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” 26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

1. Real faith means action.

Matthew 8:23 NKJV
23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him.
Since there is a word of faith movement, I think we should start a feet of faith movement. it’s easy to talk a good church game, it’s much harder to walk the game we talk.
I’ve used it before. rather than practice what I preach, I should preach what I practice. if my practice won’t preach then i’m in trouble.
if i’m doing what I’m doing to get the golfers clap from other Christians then i’m concerned with being famous.
when my primary concern is the word of God and I do what I do for that, then I am being faithful.
I need to be faithful and make him famous.
John 12:32 NKJV
32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”
Matthew 8:19 NKJV
19 Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”
remember last week?
there is a cost.
Matthew 4:20 NKJV
20 They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
Matthew 4:22 NKJV
22 and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
the disciples gave all to fallow Him,
what is god calling you to leave now.

2. Trouble is going to come. don’t wait till it gets here to get ready.

Matthew 8:24–25 NKJV
24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
Lets look at the word:
Psalm 34:19 NKJV
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.
many are the afflictions of the righteous. many people want to run to the part of the past the coma. “but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
James 1:2–3 NKJV
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
trials test our faith.
you don’t pass from one grade to the next without a test.
1 Peter 4:14 NKJV
14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.
The storms of life strengthen the inner man.
2 Corinthians 4:16–18 NKJV
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
these ‘light afflictions” are working in us for glory!
Romans 8:35–39 NKJV
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
just because you are going through some tough times doesn’t mean that God has left you nothing can separate us from the love of God.
also be careful who you judge and for what! these things will come back to haunt you.
if you are discouraged today because times are hard, if you are ‘going through it,” don’t look as it as ‘punishment from god’ look at it as a refinement.

3. The Lord is your deliverer.

Matthew 8:25–27 NKJV
25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” 26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
no matter how you slice it the disciples did the right thing in calling out to Jesus.
the spiritual truth his question teaches us is priceless and two-fold:
the first question is,

Why are you fearful?

2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV
7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
we all know that we have not ben given the spirit of fear.
so, where does it come from?
first and foremost, it comes from the flesh. we are trying to protect ourself from our worst nightmares.
second, it comes from Satan, he desires that we be debilitated by our own fears.

The second is a statement, O you of little faith?

Just as we all have fear, we all have places where our faith is challenged.
if we truly trusted the Lord, we wouldn’t worry about the light afflictions that come our way,
we would understand that these things come that we can learn how to trust the spirit over the flesh.
what has he called you to?
you may not know, but rest assured that he does.
he knows whats cumming and he wants you to be ready for it all, not just the good stuff.
renew your commitment to him today!
