Opening Story

How do I struggle with this?
I remember the day my Luke graduated. Family was in from literally around the country. Luke’s graduation was on a Friday, his graduation party was the next day, and he was leaving for his senior trip that he and 3 others had been planning since they were in middle school. Everything had come together and Luke would be receiving his diploma in just a few hours. I kept hugging him throughout the day and telling him how proud of him I was. He kept saying not yet dad, not yet. Until graduation ceremony began and he walked the stage and received his diploma, and after all the pictures, hugs, and high fives - he was waiting for me at his car and He hugged me and said now dad, now. It’s all done. They can’t take this away from me.

Question

How do we all struggle with this?
It’s natural for us to feel safe or ready until everything is taking care of and done. Many spend their entire lives working and preparing and then hoping it is enough. We don’t need to live that way, we must not live that way.

Text

What does the Bible say about this?
John 19:28 CSB
After this, when Jesus knew that everything was now finished that the Scripture might be fulfilled, he said, “I’m thirsty.”
here
John 19:29 CSB
A jar full of sour wine was sitting there; so they fixed a sponge full of sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it up to his mouth.
The hyssop is what was used by Jews to smear the blood of their Passover lamb over their door post.
John 19:30 CSB
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.
What is finished? Your redemption and my redemption was finished. He wrote his report to the Father and reported that He did everything He was assigned to do.
