Hebrews 11:27–29
27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
God desires for us to live our entire life by faith!
Hebrews 11:6a
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him...
If God showed us our entire life from beginning to end we would not have the opportunity to trust him, to have faith, to please Him!
We have seen example after example in God’s Word how men and women of faith pleased God.
Today we continue looking at the life of Moses.
I believe with all of my heart that God wants to takes us from a pattern of moments of faith to a life of faith!
We really do not know what it is to have to fully depend on God.
We as Americans in the 21st century have most of our needs met.
With a little hard work we can have it all, food, shelter, and even comforts.
So we tend to give God the left overs, the little parts of our lives that haven’t come through quite so easily.
Now there are big things too, no doubt!
But as a whole, we fend for ourselves quite well.
What if we changed our thinking, and realized that yes, our Job is providing the money for our needs.
But realize that God gave us that job in the first place
Realize that God gave us the talents to do that job
Realize that God gave us the strength to get out of bed and the strength to complete what we need to get the money to provide our needs.
When we change our thinking, we become much more dependent on God through faith!
And that pleases God!
I want to share with you today three unshakable benefits to living a life of faith that cannot be obtained anywhere else, except faith in God.
Let’s See first, a life of faith...
I. Guides You Forward
vs. 27
“By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.”
General Doolittle was a brilliant pioneer of air power.
He performed the first loop-the-loop ever flown.
He calculated his new maneuvers with confidence and with the full knowledge of the limitations of man and machine.
He did not believe in flying “by the seat of the pants” and promoted instrument flying.
He helped develop an altimeter and a directional gyroscope.
A key element was a radio beacon which would provide the pilot with a signal showing the exact place to land.
For a year, he practiced instruments-only landing—many at an airfield in Boonton, NJ, where the radar was developed.
On September 24, 1929, on Long Island, New York, Doolittle went into the rear seat of his plane and covered it with a canvas hood.
Seated in the front seat, safety pilot Benjamin S. Kelsey held his hands skyward to prove Doolittle was at the controls, and the plane flew blindly into aviation history.
During the 15-minute flight, Kelsey continued to hold his hands outside the cockpit, and Doolittle steered the plane through two 180-degree turns and back to the exact spot where it had taken off at Mitchell Field.
The Christian life is not “sight flying”—it is “instrument only” flying.
Notice How faith led Moses forward, It led him to...
A. Forsake the Past
v. 27a
“By faith he forsook Egypt”
Last week we learned that Moses, by faith, refused to be called an Egyptian.
After that refusal, Moses left Egypt in his past..at least as far as his hearts attachments.
It’s too bad that the nation of Israel couldn’t do the same!
Sometimes when we walk by faith, God leads in a way that we don’t want to go.
The Israelites were discouraged.
Their response, instead of faith and trust, was murmuring and complaining.
Faith was leading them forward, but their discouragement was causing them to look backward.
Looking backward we often remember things rose colored glasses.
In another verse they were complaining about not having some of the food they had in Egypt...
Yeah, you had cucumbers, melons, leaks, onions and garlick…but you know what else you had? SLAVERY!
Oh fickle we become when we do not face forward by faith!
B. Face the Unknown
v. 27c
“For he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.”
Moses did not literally see God, but he was able to see God through His mighty works.
Things that were impossible for any man to do.
someone said, “Faith begins where man’s power ends.”
The sooner we come to the end of our strength, the sooner we are able to live by faith!
We will be able to see with our heart an mind what we never could see with our eyes.
In Mark chapter 2, the man sick of a palsy had four friends who saw the need to bring him to Jesus despite all of the obstacles.
Faith allowed them to see a way!
Moses saw a way through faith -- and so can we!
It may seem impossible, just as they children at the Red Sea, but God has a way to strengthen us for what He is about to do!
So a life of faith Guides You Forward.
The next unshakable benefit of a life of faith is that it...
II.
Guarantees Your Deliverance
When God was ready to deliver Israel from Egypt, He sent ten terrible plagues to remind Egypt of His power and authority.
Because Moses lived by faith, Israel found deliverance!
A. Deliverance through Bold Obedience
v. 28a
“Through faith he kept the passover.”
During nine plagues Pharaoh defied God and did not let God’s people go.
So God decided to use this final to get a hold of Pharaoh.
Upon this final plague, God gave Israel some very specific instructions.
It was simple - If you obeyed God’s commands, you were delivered from the plague.
If you did not, you were not delivered.
A choice had to be made!
We know what is right!
Now we have to choose to obey what is right in order to secure the deliverance that God has promised His people.
We want deliverance - But will we obey?
Deliverance through Bold Obedience
B. Deliverance through a Blood Offering
v. 28b
”And the sprinkling of blood.”
The blood was applied to the posts of the door.
It was the blood of the Passover lamb that saved the first born of the family.
It was an innocent lamb’s death that saved the lives of the family inside.
The Bible says that we are sinners deserving death.
We too have a Passover Lamb
Why?
Because the penalty of our sin is death!
Sin requires a blood offering.
The story is told of a young woman who accepted Jesus as her Saviour.
The young woman had a very rough past, involving alcohol, drugs and prostitution.
But, the change in her was evident.
As time went on she became a faithful member of the church.
