Introduction: The Stingy Disease
The chronic disease of “playing the system” was discovered in A.D. 34 by the husband-wife team of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11).
It is an acute condition that renders the patient’s hands immobile when he is called on to move them in the direction of his wallet or her purse, and from thence to the offering plate.
This strange disease is clinically unobservable in such surroundings as the golf club, supermarket, clothing store, or restaurants.
Some try to use a fake remedy, pointing out to other patients that income tax deductions can be claimed for giving.
The best therapy, and that which leads to a sure and lasting cure, is to get the individual’s heart right with God.
This affliction is actually a symptom of a more basic need of the soul.
Main Point: “Pretending To Be A Jesus Follower Is Deadly.”
(Prayer)
***Some of this teaching also comes from notes I took from a sermon called “Perception Management” from Harris Creek Baptist Church.***
Generous Heart:
Provides a glimpse of the early church being generous.
(Example: Selling Gaming Counsels, Clothes, Shoes, Makeup, etc.)
“I hope we are sons and daughters of encouragement.”
Playing A Game:
“Look at the attention Barnabas got, let’s try to get that!”
“You will be tempted to seek credit or be recognized even if it costs your character.”
Jonathan Pokluda call it Perception Management; Can also be called “playing the game” or imposter or poser, or fake.
There are people within the church that are pretending to be Christians when they really aren’t.
How does this apply with the us today?
1.) Speed the Light
2.) Water Baptism
“Pretending to be better than we are is the most dangerous spiritual virus which can attack the church.”
65% of your peers will “quit” church by the age of 18.
What does this have to do with giving and worshipping the Lord?
1.) If you are pretending you are dead spiritually.
2.) Man becomes your god.
3.) You’ll never be content with who are and what you do.
Check Your Heart:
When it comes to worshipping the Lord, specifically when it comes to giving, what is your motive?
