v.14-15 the world has been crucified to Paul and Paul to the world.
Meaning, Paul doesn’t need to advance himself.
Paul has examined himself and found himself wanting.
He counts his own record of accomplishments as rubbish.
The value he needs.
The mark that must be met.
Has only been met by Christ.
So, in Christ, by faith is our only hope.
v.15 Because of the cross circumcision doesn’t matter anymore.
Why?
Because what circumcision pointed to and hoped for is accomplished by the cross...
And, only in the cross.
Circumcision was a covenant sign of outward sanctity.
(need a different/clearer word than sanctity)
And, it was a sign that was intended to show a longing for inward sanctity.
But, the outward sign could not provide inward sanctity.
It could only point us to it.
The cross accomplishes inward sanctity.
Doing good, biblically, and as Christians can only be done within the context of what God commands.
What’s in mind is “the blessing of the nations” that is the gospel.
So, what Paul is saying is the blessing of the nations is not circumcision.
It is not the Mosaic covenant.
It is not the Abrahamic covenant or the davidic covenant.
The blessing of the nations is the promised seed who brings the blessings in a new covenant.
