Si Alguna Vez Hemos Tenido Que Orar...
(If We Ever Needed to Pray…)
TEXT:
1 Timothy 2:1–4 KJV 1900
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
Si me lo permiten, voy a informar las noticias ...
· El mundo está en crisis (lista)
o Guerra en Ucrania
§ 7th month (invasion in Feb. 24,2022)
§ Russia losing a lot of soldiers and a lot of equipment
§ Russia Annexed parts of Ukraine & declared them part of Russia (this means Putin can claim Russia itself is being attacked, when Ukraine is trying to take back its own territory)
§ 2 weeks ago, 9/21/22 Putin gave a speech… called up 300,000 reservists to go fight
§ Within the hour every flight out of Russia sold out, borders are packed w/ men trying to leave the country.
§ In that same speech Putin threatened nuclear war on the west. He said “Si la integridad territorial de Rusia se ve amenazada, Rusia utilizará todos los medios a su disposición”, dijo. "Esto no es una exageración".
o Potential war with China
§ China threatening to invade Taiwan (claims it as its own)
§ President Biden was asked in an interview if the U.S. would defend Taiwan militarily if China invades, he answered “Yes, absolutely. It’s a commitment we made.”
o Russian and Chinese Ships spotted near Alaska
§ On Monday 9/19/22 Russian and Chinese Ships were spotted by the Coast Guard sailing inside of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (Less than 100 miles from the coast of Alaska)
o Recession fears
§ According to the Washington Post “The economy shrank in the first half of this year, the government confirmed in a report Thursday, underscoring fears of a broad-based slowdown that could lead to a recession.”
§ Inflation, meantime, remains near its highest level in four decades.
§ each of the past 10 times that the economy shrank for two consecutive quarters, a recession has resulted.
· Do I have your attention yet?
o The world is literally on the brink of some pretty catastrophic events.
· If we have ever needed to pray… now is the time
· What should we do? (Panic? / Start building bunkers?)
· No, it is time to wake and realize that something needs to be done. The question is what?
· Like in the past, when a nation forgets the Lord and turns their back on Him, there will be consequences (Read: Judges 2:10-15)
· You must remember, the solution to all of man’s problems can only be found in the pages of scripture.
· So let’s go there…
-1 Timothy 2:1-4
1 Therefore I exhort first of all (This is where we should start. First pray, then act. We always do it the other way around and say “well all we have left to do is pray.”)
that supplications (These represent urgent prayers, we need those right now.),
prayers (our worship and adoration of God, as well as our conversations with God. You better be talking with God regularly these days. Always, but especially these days.)
intercessions (prayers on behalf of others, can’t just pray for us. We must pray for all.)
and giving of thanks (We must thank God for His generosity towards us in Christ Jesus.)
be made for all men, (God does not discriminate on the basis of race, social status, or gender. Neither should His children) “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus” -Gal. 3:26 / we must pray for the salvation of the lost.
2 for kings and all who are in authority (people in authority especially need our prayers. Fist because they can affect your life directly by the laws they create. But also, people in government are especially susceptible to attacks from Satan. (“…spirits of demons go out to the kings of the earth… and gather them…” -Rev. 16:12-16)
that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life (this is for a life free from persecution, especially from the government. prayer helps to maintain the peace of society.)
in all godliness (living according to Biblical standards)
and reverence (worthy of respect, people will receive the Gosple more readily from a respectable person or a person they admire). (“seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captive and pray unto Jehovah for it; for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace -Jeremiah 29:7.)
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, (When we pray we do a good thing in the eyes of the Lord and He finds it pleasing in His presence).
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (Story of life saving station, don’t let the church become like that!)
“For God does not show favoritism.” -Rom. 2:11
Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel? -Rom. 2:11
5 For there is one God, one mediator also between God and men, himself man, Christ Jesus, (Job 9:32-35 There is no mediator between us) We can participate in this mediation by praying for the salvation of the lost & sharing Jesus.
6 who gave himself a ransom for all; the testimony to be borne in its own times;
7 whereunto I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I speak the truth, I lie not), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. (Paul really was called to be an apostle. 1 Cor. 15:9 – I am the least of the apostles… because I persecuted the church.)
8 I desire therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing. (Holy hands = clean, holy, obedient living, W/ out wrath = living in unity and love for one another.)
A. The state of the world might seem like too much to handle. You might think what can I do?
B. Well, you can pray
James 5:16 KJV 1900
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
C. The nation of Israel prayed while in slavery in Egypt and God answered
D. Prayer and preaching brought about the Great Awakening, George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards which preceded the American Revolution (Independence and birth of a new nation)
E. The Berlin wall came down by a group of people that would gather to pray regularly for its collapse. And it came down on Nov. 9, 1989.
F. What walls do you need God to tear down today?
If this world has any hope left is that it turns to Jesus there is no other hope…
Acts 4:12 KJV 1900
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV 1900
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
· Imagine how different you would be if you began to pray like the Bible tells you to
· Imagine how different your family would be if you began to pray like that.
· Imagine how different our church would be
· Imagine how different our community/neighborhood
· Imagine how different our world would be if the church started to pray?!
Please stand…
· Prayer is vital to the life of the church.
· The Holy Spirit works in the church through prayer and the Word of God.
· The church that prays will have power and will make a lasting impact for Christ.
· Church, it’s time to pray!!!
