It’s been almost 20 years (4/25/95) since the Arizona Republic newspaper reported the story of Steve Tran of Westminster, California. Steve had a bug problem: cockroach infestation in his apartment. He tried everything but couldn’t seem to get rid of the nasty creatures. One day he heard about a product…
Sermon on the Mount
Murder. anger, pride, selfishness all have malice in common. These sins and many more cut the heart off from pure motives focused on the Lord. Our prayer today is that as you listen to this message, you lay any burdens down that are holding you back from a life of freedom in Christ and a heart that is set aside only for God. Only God can take a dirty heart and make it clean.

As people, it is apparent that we are remarkably bad at choosing people for the best reasons. We are predictably drawn to what we see, to the outward appearance. This is often the natural inception of our understanding of others, and this is not always a bad thing. However, we have to move to a much more accurate assessment of someone by viewing who they are in the inside. When we miss this, we end up with all kinds of trouble. We elect, hire, marry, reward attractive people, or people who perform well, but miss the much more important beauty of so many who may not have the appearance of others. In the same way, we have learned to have the outside of our cups clean and decorated in specific ways in order to be accepted.

My sermon is going to be different today. If you are visiting, I’m so glad you are here, but I need to inform you that today’s sermon is nothing like every other sermon I preach from week to week. And this is why: According to Bob Smietana, from LifeWay Research, “more than half of Americans have read…
Real Life - The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7)
Now that Jesus has established that the 'greater righteousness' needed to get into heaven comes from him, he moves to show what it really means to live out that righteousness in a deep, heart-level obedience to God. The righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, based on a cold-hearted, technical obedience to God's law, just won't cut it.

Jesus rescues us from anger. There will be nothing in His Kingdom which offends. The only way to enter His Kingdom is by believing Him, by believing He died for your sin, that He was buried, and that He has been raised from the dead. This means that He is alive right now and He will come to you and rescue you from both the final penalty for your sin, being outside of His Eternal Kingdom in the lake of fire, and from the power of sin in our hearts right now! Jesus is alive and comes to those who trust Him by His Holy Spirit. He can rescue you from anger. He is able to change the world by rescuing people from anger. Ask Him to rescue you from anger. Recorded at Refuge TLH on Sunday, June 16, 2019.
