Churches are confused. There appears to be no consensus on what function the church serves in the world. Building up believers, evangelizing the lost, feeding the poor, lobbying government, and protesting legislation are just a few of the functions churches feel compelled to perform. Rick Warren recognized…

Sharing the good news about God and Jesus Christ with others is a work to which some believers have a special calling, but in which all believers are to take part.
THE POWER OF THE GROWING SEED Mark 4:26-29 26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; 27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. 28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade,…

God calls and sends out his people into the world. All believers are called to share the good news of the gospel, though some are specially commissioned by God, confirmed by the church and compelled by the gospel message to missionary service.
Opening: Have you ever been stuck before? My son Zander has a way of getting himself into places that he can’t get out of. The most common is in the crib. He can somehow get his leg or arm through the bars, but he can’t seem to get them back out. Maybe you’ve been stuck in traffic. That is absolutely…

I pray that all of you have come prepared to be transformed by the power of God’s word. I also pray that even though Easter is over, you are still in awe of the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior. You might have assumed that last week was our final look at the life of Jesus of Nazareth. But after Christ…
God needs workers. If Christians do not carry on the work of Christ, who will? What should the attitude of a Christian be regarding working for God?

Intro Growing up, how many of you heard the warning, “Don’t talk to strangers!”? Some have argued that this is bad advice if a child is lost or injured. They have said that such advice should be qualified with, “If you get lost or are injured, find a mommy to help you.” That’s good advice too, but I…
When Christians think about the Great Commission they think about Matt 28:18-20. But there are actually five other passages where Jesus commissions us. When we examine each of these six passages we come away with a far more detailed and complete idea of our mission in this world. We find six very important ideas: Jesus is The Master Builder, Jesus is The Model, The Magnitude is significant, Jesus gives The Method, Jesus gives The Message, and the Holy Spirit provides The Means.
The title of the sermon is “Called, Convinced, Commissioned,” and the wording there could even be re-arranged if you want. It could be Called, Commissioned, Convinced, or even Convinced, Called, Commissioned. The order is not what is important here. What is important is our living a life in obedience…
