GREYFRIARS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH The Life and Ministry of Moses 1. Prosperity to Persecution Reading: Exodus 1:6 - 22 Introduction: This all too brief look at Exodus was sparked by my recent study leave trip to Egypt and my journeys - modern, swift and reasonably comfortable - through the Sinai wilderness.…
Today we are looking at John 6:28-29 . This passage is in the middle of Jesus’ interaction with the crowds he had miraculously fed on the other side of the Sea of Galilee from only 5 small barley loaves and two fish. He fed them, and then returned to Capernaum supernaturally walking on the water to meet…
Where do we start? 10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. 10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever. What do we tend to fear? The unknown…
Today we are looking at John 6:16-21 . This is the third part in a Mini-series on Fear which we have been doing together. HEBREWS-JESUS IS BETTER
1. If the author is encouraging faith in a people who know these stories from birth - what does Genesis 22:17 and Hebrews 11:12 read together remind them? 2. Why does Hebrews 11:13 feel both like it’s hanging out of place in the motif of the OT stories but also feel so appropriate in the middle of this section? a. What about it feels out of place b. What about it fits c. What about it applies to us? 3. Is pastor John crazy, or is the story of Hebrews 11:20 actually like a Jerry Springer episode

Hebrews 11:8-22 “By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went out to a place he was going to receive as an inheritance; he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, co-heirs of the same promise.…
In the Beginning
Pastor Leo starts a new sermon series today on Genesis 1-11 called “In the Beginning.” Genesis is a book of beginnings: the beginning of creation, the beginning of humanity, the beginning of sin and death, but most importantly, the beginning of God’s plan of salvation for humanity and our journey back home.

God is less concerned with you coming out and more concerned with you going in—that is, into His promise. Many view the book of Exodus as a story of salvation FROM Egypt (and that thought that is true); however, salvation isn't simply the process of coming out, it is the process of going in. Removing a person from a place of torment and temptation has less of an effect than transforming the mind from being tormented or tempted. God is working to bring us into a greater relationship and fellowship with Him. Relationship and fellowship is TRUE salvation. Let's see this through the lens of Exodus.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the men of old obtained a good report. By faith we understand that the universe was framed by the word of God, so that things that are seen were not made out of things which are visible. By faith Abel offered to…
