Scripture tells us that Jesus, on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, He broke it. This was not anything out of the ordinary. It's what Jesus said next that they were not expecting. In order to appreciate the unexpected, we need to know what the disciples expected and what Jesus in the end represented. There are two expectations that the disciples had, and one truth that would change the course of God's people forever.
