Chase Knudsen • First Christian Church • Sermon • • 4,158 views • 38:18
Today we start the 3 topics that Jesus discusses as our Christian service to God; giving, prayer and fasting. Jesus explains that these things inthemselves are not bad at all in fact what we should do. The issue is that we often do the right things but with the wrong motives. It goes back to the heart. Won't you prepare your heart in prayer before you listen today? May the Lord speak to you today as you listen!

Peter gives us the basic components for how to purify the love in our relationships: purge them of sin, purify them with the Word, and purpose your actions in God's kindness. Hypocritical love is one of the most disgusting things we will ever see. To fake love or pretend it is real when it isn't, flies in the face of true Christianity. This message explores what love looks like in everyday life.

I Kings 18:21 In I Kings 18, we encounter a group of the children of Israel who drifted away from a vital relationship with God. Their relationship was, well--convenient, but it wasn't genuine. While they were in the wilderness, they depended upon God for guidance and sustenance. Yahweh was their provider.…

The Danger of Hypocrisy Hypocrisy. It’s when hands lifted in praise have been earlier used for sin. It’s when lips proclaiming praise had hours earlier been used for insults. It’s when one’s reputation and one’s character are vastly different. The Pharisees were condemned for their hypocrisy. We read the stories of their encounters with Jesus and shake our heads at how far off they were from the truth without realizing that that is why they were condemned in the first place. Today, we need to evaluate and see if our lifestyle is different than that of the hypocritical Pharisees. Are we living lives of integrity? Read Jesus’ words in Matthew 15:1-9. Jesus condemned the Pharisees because they were more focused on people breaking their traditions than God’s commandments. It infuriated them that Jesus’ disciples did not follow protocol when it came to washing of hands and the manner in which they ate. Jesus was exhausted from their unwillingness to see the big picture.

The very opening words of the Psalms set the tone for what a blessed man does not do: Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; Judas would have been wise to remember these words, for he did take counsel with…

"An apple a day keeps the doctor away," but not when you have cancer. There are some folk remedies that do nothing to help you. There are others that do more harm than good. The Pharisees' folk remedy for sin was to obey the law, but their pretend perfection was a danger to their souls. Jesus tells us what we should really think about the law in his Sermon on the Mount.
