God works to: 1. enlighten us about what matters (vs. 1-3). 2. encourage our trust in Him (vs. 4-12). 3. enlist our witness for Him (vs. 12-15). 4. establish a life-changing relationship with Him (vs. 16-18).
The Coming of the Holy Spirit
Cornelius' encounter with an angel and the Holy Spirit's baptism of his entire household was the beginning of the Church going "to the ends of the earth." Peter and the Jews had to witness the blessing of the Holy Spirit on gentiles for them to realize God did not favor any particular special nation. In Christ, we are all one race, one people, one nation. There is no one unclean or impure.
In Acts 10 the Apostle Peter was called by God to put aside the Jewish purity laws which had distinguished Jews from everyone else for fifteen hundred years! Why did God so abruptly discard such an important part of Jewish identity? What was to be gained? Nothing but the entire world. Join us as we unpack God's amazing strategy to redeem mankind as the church goes global.
