A God Ready to Forgive. What wonderful words to hear? Ezra confesses that God is always ready to forgive and then describes the character of God that makes him ready to forgive. The following words are some of the most comforting words found in our Bibles. We so often struggle with God’s love. When we sin – we wonder if God loves us. When we suffer – we wonder if God loves us. Yet this passage should clear any doubt. God always loves and forgives those who seek his name.

Ezra recounts in his prayer how Israel responded to the blessings of God (9:6-15) with rebellion and disobedience. The text summarizes Israel's people as being prideful, stiff necked, breaking the Law, and indiffirent to God. As we compare the NT to God's work with Israel - we can be just as prideful, rebellious, disobedient, and indiffirent. We often are amazed at the Apostasy of Israel in the face of such mighty love and power. But the Gospel represents even greater power and grace. We ought to live by faith as we consider the power and love of the Exodus and the Gospel.

God's wrath is revealed due to mankind's exchanging of truth for lies; the result is sin and destruction.
