How to tell if someone is truly repentant: Seven Identifying Marks of the truly repentant 2 Cor. 7:8-12 Intro: Do Christians need to repent? With us making our way through the gospel of John... we came to John the Baptist being called by God to INTRODUCE Jesus Christ to Israel... by water baptizing... AND then we looked into the actual water…

Introduce the Kingdom of God The Bible is one grand continuous story. It’s God’s story. The Old and New Testaments are not two completely different stories. The New Testament and Jesus and His teachings do not somehow do away with or replace the Old Testament. Jesus taught and proclaimed the exact same…

Over the years I have had the pleasure of getting to know singer and songwriter Danny Oertli. One of the things I have noticed about many of the songs he writes is that they stem from life events he has gone through. When you understand the events and details of his life you have a new appreciation for…

The Call, The Vision, The Mission The church’s vision is what the church will look like in the next five to ten years of its life as it accomplishes the mission. A Vision Statement, is not a statement describing what a certain ministry is now, but rather a Vision Statement asserts what those in the ministry…

Introduction Good morning! (missed you - vacation - hope you missed me) When you think of the preaching of John the Baptist, what comes to mind?... What was his central message? (Repentance) Why do you suppose that message is largely absent today? People will not often tolerate being told what to do…

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return…

A little boy wanted to help himself when the wine and wafers of Communion were passed out. His mother leaned over and told him that he was not old enough to take Communion. Later, when the collection plate came by, his mother again leaned over and tried to coax a nickel out of the boy’s clenched fist.…

The Danger of Hypocrisy
Hypocrisy. It’s when hands lifted in praise have been earlier used for sin. It’s when lips proclaiming praise had hours earlier been used for insults. It’s when one’s reputation and one’s character are vastly different. The Pharisees were condemned for their hypocrisy. We read the stories of their encounters with Jesus and shake our heads at how far off they were from the truth without realizing that that is why they were condemned in the first place.
Today, we need to evaluate and see if our lifestyle is different than that of the hypocritical Pharisees. Are we living lives of integrity?
Read Jesus’ words in Matthew 15:1-9.
Jesus condemned the Pharisees because they were more focused on people breaking their traditions than God’s commandments. It infuriated them that Jesus’ disciples did not follow protocol when it came to washing of hands and the manner in which they ate. Jesus was exhausted from their unwillingness to see the big picture.

Jumanji roll-in Has anyone seen the original? I have and I have to be honest, I’m always a little skeptical about remakes because they’re usually not as good, but after watching this it’s become one of my favorite movies. Many people dislike organized religion in general - not just Christianity. Some people blame organized religion for most of history's killings. It is also sometimes claimed that more people have been killed in the name of Christ than for any other reason. Is this true, and is Christ or his teaching to blame?
