Broken yet Chosen Have you ever felt like you were good enough? Like a failure? Like maybe you don’t live up to everyone else expectation? like maybe you have just been passed over? Or maybe things will just keep on going this same way and nothing will ever change? Often times we judge by the outside.…

Peter reminds us that Christ, the cornerstone, was rejected. We likewise may be rejected. However, Christ is the promised saving stone from Isaiah and the Psalms. Though we may be rejected like Christ, there will be no shame when the ultimate judgement Comes. The stone is a sure blessing of salvation for those who believe, but it is a rock of offence condemning those who reject it.

We are returning to our study of 1 Peter. Peter wrote this letter to encourage believers. The people he was writing to were like us in many ways. They were scattered in the world. They were facing trials of many kinds. Often, people think of the trials Peter wrote about as Persecution for their faith…

Peter describes believers in light of Christ, the cornerstone. He describes us as living stones being set next to the cornerstone, forming a Spiritual house, as well as a priesthood of believers. These truths speak to how each believer should be singularly (Christ-Centered) and dependently (Christ-Dependent) serving God. The context that service for God is principally is being transformed into his holy priesthood (1 Peter 2:5) and declaring the riches and mercies that are found in Christ (1 Peter 2:9). The building up that is found in God working through the scriptures to establish us as His Holy, Royal Priesthood, a temple set apart for him. (1 Peter 2:2)
