The key to a magician’s act is misdirection of our attention. They try to get us to focus on the smoke and mirrors, distraction our focus so that we don’t see something important so that we don’t see what is happening right before our eyes. James 1:9-11 shows how to boast in the cross while experiencing poverty, riches and fading strength.

The fact that life is short and fragile is not to be confused with the sin of omission, of prideful living and self-centered arrogance.

God wants us to boast in the Lord. How can we do this? We boast in the Lord (1) by guarding truth (2 Cor. 10:1-6), (2) by recognizing the Lord as the Giver of authority (2 Cor. 10:7-10), and (3) by glorying in the Lord Who commends us (2 Cor. 10:12-17).

How do we live a life that is not wasted? This sermon looks at the Galatians 6:11-18, how Paul talks about his boasting and why through boasting only in the Cross of Christ we can live a life that is truly worthwhile.

When reading scripture it's no surprise to find that proud boasting is detestable to God, even an abomination (Prov 16:5). But as we conclude the book of Galatians this Sunday, we find there is one matter in which we should boast: the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
