Galatians: SOAR! Faith Without Limits "The Gospel, Grace, Freedom"
Matthew 7:15 Christ Jesus Himself states: 15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. Galatians 1:6-10 6 I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; 7 which is really not…
Jesus taught us again through Mark 10:35-45 God’s principle of leadership. Human beings are not created to handle the power and position they are not predestined to handle. It’s dangerous to covet the ranks and roles, and race to climb the corporate ladder because “power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” That is human nature. That’s how we are created. We do well by enjoying where we are and leading from there by serving.
How would you measure your success—temporally and eternally? Would you measure it by your possession, power, prestige, or performance? Many people are wise enough to know that possession, power, and prestige are not the metrics of success, but many think performance is. If you ask Jesus to give you the answer, what do you think he would say? Let's take a look at this rich young ruler's pursuit of eternal success.
Every so often in Isaiah there is what is called a “Servant Song” They always speak of aspects of the ministry of Jesus but also about opposition to Him. There was one in 42 and one in 49. Tonight we will see the 3rd one. And in it we will see aspects of His suffering in graphic terms. In a few weeks…
In Mark 9, Jesus confronts his disciples with the upside-down reality of the Kingdom of Heaven. Leaders are servants, children are important, outsiders are insiders, and we ourselves are our own worst enemies. So much of this is over-familiar to us, but what happens when we really apply it to ouselves? Can it change us? Should it? Does it?
The Deacon Ministry
The Deacon Ministry I find a list from a pastor friend about how you know you are a small rural church pastor. “I got 7 deacons on my mind, 4 that want to own me, 2 that want to stone me, 1 that says he’s a friend of mine.” You have more deacons than you do widows Gladly and thankfully that is not the…
Year A 2019-2020
Did any of you as a child say “I want to be a servant to someone when I grow up?” Anyone? Not likely would anyone want to be a servant. When we think of a servant we think of a slave, someone who is owned by someone else and who has no control of their own life. Have any of you watch the show on PBS…

Philippians: Summer 2019
As a way to get us started this morning, let’s recap a couple of items...last week, we learned that in the Book of Acts, chapter 16, Luke records the roots of this church in Philippi. What is written here in the letter comes from the writings of Paul, nearly 10 years later, while in prison in Rome, to…

Deacon Ministry “A pastor was ten minutes into his sermon when two police officers came in the service, pointed to a deacon to come out of the pew, handcuffed him and took him away. The amazing thing was that the pastor kept preaching, but even more amazing is the deacon’s wife stayed for the entire…

Service. We talk about God's Ministry and being a part of it. But do we realize that God's ministry requires servants? Are we too good to serve other people? Who is exempt? Jesus served without hesitation. Antonio Moise breaks down the service required in God's ministry.

Introduction How do you know who to trust? The book of Proverbs encourages us to have a multitude of counselors, but how do you know who has pure motives and who is being deceptive? I’ve been working through a biography of the life of George Washington, the acclaimed general of the Revolutionary War…
