Pastor Chuck starts a new sermon series about the “Sermon on the Mount”. He describes how Jesus uses “The Beatitudes” help to us redefine what God wants us to admire in the world. Pastor Chuck provides a unique concept for us to use the Beatitudes as “not the attitudes we should have, but the attitudes we should be.” This week, Pastor Chuck’s topic is “Blessed are the Poor in Spirit.” Pastor Chuck describes how being “blessed” is a continuous spiritual condition of spiritual prosperity (being rich in spirit), contentment, and satisfaction in your life, not a physical feeling or state of physical material possession. Pastor Chuck will explain “one who is ‘poor in spirit’ has humbly recognized they have a deep need for God because they know they lack His Holiness and have a need for His forgiveness, grace, and mercy, and need Him as a Savior.” Pastor Chuck encourages us to become more aware of our desperate everyday need for God and to invite Him into our lives more every day.

In Luke’s sixth chapter, he presents Messiaha’s teaching on the Sabbath and what should govern its practice. The disciples are named and the Beatitudes are taught: What creates contentment in life. THis is followed by a descrition of true love for others and a lesson not to mix evil actions and good intentions. Lastly, his followers are encouraged to be wise, that is, to always obey His teachings and not make life unstable though disobedience.

In Luke’s 6th chapter, the Master chooses His 12 disciples and follows by offering them the heart they should have in the Beattitudes. Continuing His Sermon on the Mount, He teaches them in greater specifics what He would have them do as followers of His. Examine your life and habits as you sit at His feet.
