Lesson 2 The Attitudes of a Disciple (Matthew 5:1-12) By Brother Michel Lankford If there is one passage of Scripture that encapsulates discipleship principles, it would have to be the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5 through 7). The way we talk and who we talk to regarding prayer matters. Today we'll learn why our attitude matters and why it's important to have a basic understanding of the person we are talking to regarding prayer.
Living in this fallen world, we all have encountered infelicity and injustice. This is the reality of life. The Buddhists call this world “a sea of suffering.” The Chinese call it “Kuhai 苦海”. In fact, the Chinese word for suffering 苦 resemble a human face, indicating life itself is a suffering and we are born to suffer. We all came into this world with a loud cry. I am not being negative here but being realistic because we cannot overcome suffering by denying it. The story in Mark 10:46-52 gives us insights on how to surf the sea of suffering. Let's take a look!

We can seek life and live in God's abundance or we can seek death and wallow in decay. We have the choice of what kind of attitude we have. We need to learn to seek to serve God. This sermon examines what kind of attitude the Apostle Paul had as he served God.

In The Beginning When God create us, he made us the Garden of Eden, he made us so many things that were meant for usefulness, sustenance and our pleasure. They were made for our use, to be external to us, and subservient to us. I have a wife and a daughter that I love dearly, and I have often thought…

Forgiven: Now What? 1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears,…

Do you dare to be different? Different in the way you dress. Different in the way you talk. Or even to drive a different-looking car. You may feel uneasy when you are surrounded with people that are different to who you're used to. You may feel uncomfortable when you're around different environment. Non-believers will sometimes look at you differently in a nerdy-sense. But in God's sense, we must actually be different. Our morals are different and the way we think shall be different. The temple of God in Jerusalem was rebuilt because God moved the hearts and changed the attitudes of King Cyrus, King Artaxerxes and King Darius. If the Lord can change how the pagan kings think, much more that He could change the way we think if we let the Holy Spirit.

All the way through the Scriptures we are called to be like Jesus. The more we know of Him the more we want o become like Him...the more we become like Him the more we struggle with becoming like Him. It is an everyday challenge...part of every day discipleship to follow our Lord and Master and to be like Him.
