Ephesians 1:3–14 (ESV)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. 11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

The young women saw her and called her blessed; the queens and concubines also, and they praised her. 10 “Who is this who looks down like the dawn, beautiful as the moon, bright as the sun, awesome as an army with banners?”
Introduction
The Lord has already spoken of how he is overwhelmed by the church for such is her beauty. Her new nature, the chosen one, her righteousness, her holiness and her inheritance are staggeringly overwhelming, she is truly awesome. Here he now speaks of her more personal qualities.

No matter how many other women there are she stands out amongst all of them
1 After these things, when the anger of King Ahasuerus had abated, he remembered Vashti and what she had done and what had been decreed against her. 2 Then the king’s young men who attended him said, “Let beautiful young virgins be sought out for the king. 3 And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom to gather all the beautiful young virgins to the harem in Susa the citadel, under custody of Hegai, the king’s eunuch, who is in charge of the women. Let their cosmetics be given them.
Kingdom stretching from Macedonia in the west to northern India in the east. The beauty of the church is far greater than that of Esther.
12 Now when the turn came for each young woman to go in to King Ahasuerus, after being twelve months under the regulations for the women, since this was the regular period of their beautifying, six months with oil of myrrh and six months with spices and ointments for women—

The appearance of the Shulamite is like the morning red of the dawn beginning to break through the darkness; the soft whiteness of the moon as it continues to shine in the heavens in the early morning; and the pure brightness of the sun, high in the sky, shining in full splendour at midday. Conclusion
15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

A church filled with the love of God, the life of God, the presence of God, the fear of God, the truth of God, the Christ of God, the Spirit of God and (not least) the holiness of God will not fail to have an effect. A church where the banner of the Lord Jesus Christ is held high, and where that blessed combination of truth and grace is found in abundance, will provoke all manner of opposition, yet will be owned of her bridegroom, who has given her the sure promises, ‘I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it’, and ‘I am with you always, even to the end of the age’ Richard Brooks
